LTL Holdings

Starting with an investment of Rs. 8.5 million in the beginning of the 1980s, LTL Holdings has become the largest and most established engineering company in Sri Lanka. Today the company has expanded to the international arena by catering to the complete supply chain of the power sector.

Formally known as Lanka Transformers Limited, LTL Holdings has a very strong commitment to excel on the highest standards. Providing products and services to over 20 countries globally it is this attention to detail and quality that has allowed the company to become a major player in the international marlet. Over 50% of our products are exported, after meeting the entire domestic requirements.

We are also renowned as one of the main Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors of major power projects. Our well-earned reputation as the most trusted party extends to projects in Grid Substations and Transmission Lines.

Such is the growth of the company that we have also pioneered Independent Power Production (IPP) in Sri Lanka. Our experience also extends towards being an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contractor.

The company extended its further presence by acquiring Asiatic India Switchgear Limited. Our capability has now completely extended being as an EPC and O&M Contractor, supplemented through our fully fledged supply chain of subsidiary companies.

Our Corporate Management:

Mr. Jayawardana has been the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer for 25 years since taking on the role back in 1988. It is under his innovative leadership that LTL has entered many areas of engineering and established several subsidiaries/affiliates. The Group has now reached the pinnacle in Sri Lanka’s engineering sphere and is gaining global recognition as well.

Mr. Jayawardana, a Chartered Engineer in Electrical Engineering, is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka, and the Institute of Engineering Technology, U. K. He also holds a Diploma in Management from the National Institute of Management.

Mr. Marikkar has been the Project Director of virtually all major projects undertaken by the company – the most recent of which was the 300 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant project at Kerawalapitiya. The achievements with regard to this project were internationally recognized and appreciated when the Group was awarded the International Gold Award for the Best Independent Power Producer for the year 2008 in the Asian Region at the Asian Power Award Ceremony, organized by the Asian Power Magazine.

Before joining LTL 14 years ago, he was with the National Power Utility. He is part of the management team responsible for a ground breaking leadership that led LTL to the top position it now enjoys in Sri Lanka’s engineering sphere.

Marikkar, a Chartered Engineer in Electrical Engineering, is a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka, and the Institute of Engineering Technology, U. K. He also holds a PG Dip. in Industrial Engineering and an M.Sc. in Project Management.

Mr. Pitigalage brings his exceptional knowledge in finance, business awareness and brilliant engineering intellect together into LTL Holdings. This synergetic mix of intellectual business knowledge and understanding has been invaluable in developing LTL to its present status. He has transcended traditional boundaries of professionalism by artfully mastering engineering with management accountancy and proceeding further to being an exemplary financial strategist. He was crowned as the CFO of the year 2008 at the CIMA-Sri Lanka Pinnacle Awards.

His exceptional knowledge in project financing has been instrumental in negotiating funding arrangements for major Infrastructure development projects including the largest power project (Yugadhanavi Power Plant) ever realized in Sri Lankan history.

Pitigalage’s qualifications include B. Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering, Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK (FCMA), an MBA from University of Sri Jayawardanapura and Level 1 of CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) exams.

During the 16 year period Mr. Nanayakkara has been with LTL Holdings, he has shouldered many responsibilities including designing and manufacturing of transformers as well as general management. His areas of technical expertise include construction of emergency thermal power plants on a fast track basis, outdoor substations, grid substations, thermal power plants and a host of others. He was very much instrumental in implementing energy saving projects in industries on a commercial basis in Sri Lanka – developing an improved and effective lightning protection system for distribution transformers as well as developing self-protected transformers.

Nanayakkara, B.Sc. (Hons), MEng, CEng(SL), CEng(UK), has a First Class Honors degree in Electrical Engineering. He joined LTL soon after graduation from the University of Moratuwa in 1995. He has obtained a Master of Engineering degree from the same university and is a Chartered Engineer in Electrical Engineering, a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka, the Institution of Engineering Technology (UK) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (USA). Mr. Nanayakkara was the Project Manager of the 300MW Combined Cycle Power Plant project at Kerawalapitiya which was built at a cost of over US$ 300 million making it the largest power plant to be developed in Sri Lanka.

Lakdhanavi is the largest independent power producer within the power sector of Sri Lanka and can lay claim to a host of other impressive achievements. Pawandanavi is the wind power subsidiary of LTL Holdings (Pvt) Limited. The wind power plant is located in the Illanthadiya town of Norochcholai city in Sri Lanka. The power plant has an installed capacity of 10 MW and uses Siemens-Gamesa technology. It is noteworthy to mention that the wind power plant was constructed and commissioned in just under 6 months and has proved to be one of the most successful ventures of the group company.
